A self assured person is open to new knowledge and open to others’ opinions and ideas because those opinions pose no threat to their own status of being intelligent. A know-it-all, on the other hand, views others’ opinions as a threat, defensively explaining why new information is invalid and why their knowledge is superior. They typically enjoy every opportunity to highlight others’ failings that could if others had just listened to them.

How to deal with a Know-It-All in the workplace:

  1. Don’t confront a know-it-all.
  2. Don’t try to change a know-it-all.
  3. Compliment the know-it-all for the special talents he brings to the table.

How to make sure you don’t become a Know-It-All yourself:

  1. Wish to continuously learn new things and always stay humble enough to learn.
  2. When discussing a topic that you are confident, share your thoughts on the matter.
  3. Never feel threatened by others’ opinions and ideas. R
